Archive for the ‘ espresso pods ’ Category

I just got a new espresso machine and it only can make espresso from pods. I’m used to grinding, tamping and pulling my own shots. But my question is can I pull more than 1 shot with 1 espresso pod? I usually pull 3 shots of espresso for my drinks (combined with milk). I guess I just want to know if I should pull 3 shots from 3 pods or can I pull multiple shots from 1 pod? Thanks, take care.

The Secret of Coffee Bean Bakery- What Is It Actually
By Jason Uvios

Oh, what a wonderful concept the coffee bean bakery’s is, that is, if there was one in reality. But what it is in actual practice? Simplistically speaking, a coffee bean bakery is something pretty similar to a cake bakery where you can enjoy the freshly baked delightful cakes of baker’s favorite. Baker blends a special mix of flavors and aromas and when the cake is finally out of the oven and ready to eat, it sure waters every mouth.

So Here Is the Coffee Bean Bakery
So coffee bean bakery is a place where the coffee roaster hand picks beans from different varieties, roasts them to appropriate strengths of darkness he knows a particular roast is reached just by the exotic aroma of roasted beans. Roasters are experts in their trades so much that they hardly make use of the heaters timer to stop roasting.

Handpicking the Special Beans
In fact, coffee bean bakeries are cafes that also experiment and entertain their clientele by offering them their specialty blends. The blender or the roaster, whatever the person is called calls the final shots when it comes to the art of choosing and selecting coffee beans. The beans are individually in various sizes, although there should not be a major difference to the flavor because of differing sizes, some roasters want to make a difference. The fully grown, full size beans have a different density owing to their maturity, color etc and thus perhaps leaving a signature flavor.

The Magic Called Bean Roasting
The second major role played in the coffee bean baking is of roasting. This is because different varieties take different times to reach the optimum roast level. Roast level is decided by the color of beans, the aroma and purely the roasters judgment. If you ask me, it is this cultured judgment of the roasters that brings out the best from each coffee beans. This is why they don’t favor standardization in coffee bean bakeries.

Bean roasters are patience personified. They roast beans over a slow fire patiently waiting for each bean to turn darkish brown from green during which allowing them to gain ultimate flavor, the mesmerizing appearance which can leave lingering that lively flattering feel on the tongue which the coffee addicts long for.

Beans are not roasted split first unlike in the general mass production practice. You can tell whether a bean batch is bean baked or not by splitting a bean; bean baked coffee is darker externally but slightly less so inside. But plainly opening the bag announces the coffee bean bakery without troubling you to split beans.

Feel like a zombie every morning before you’ve had that first cup of coffee? The problem is that when you are still half asleep, no one wants to fumble with coffee beans and a grinder. The other problem is that you want that cup of coffee fast! Also, it makes no sense to make an entire pot, when all you want is a quick cup to go. There’s a simple solution that solves both of these problems: a coffee pod maker. I’m going to show you why a coffee pod maker is the perfect way to brew a great cup of coffee, quick and easily.

Coffee pod makers are the hottest new trend in kitchen appliances. Instead of brewing into a carafe or pot, they brew single serving batches directly into a mug. Also as the name suggests, they use coffee pods. Coffee pods are almost the same as round tea bags except that they are filled with coffee instead. They are available from many different brands and in varieties such as espresso, decaf, french vanilla, hazelnut and irish cream. Yummy!

Making a fresh cup of coffee couldn’t be simpler with these machines. All you have to do is put a pod into the top of the machine, fill it with water and then push the button. Just don’t forget to put your mug underneath! You’ll have a steaming cup of coffee in about a minute. Cleaning up afterwards is also a snap. The coffee pod can simply be thrown into the trash bin. No more coffee grinders to clean, filters to mess with, carafe’s to wash or spilled grounds to wipe off of the counter.

Coffee pod makers are available from all of the major brands you may be familiar with. They are available from such brands as Keurig, Bosch, Braun and Melitta. All of the machines are quite similar. Some may have additional features, so compare a few models to see what the differences are.

As you can see, coffee pod machines blow regular old coffee makers out of the water. Not only are they a breeze to use, they’ll save you precious time. This is perfect for busy people who are on the run. Especially when heading out the door for work. Check them out. You’ll wonder why you’ve waited so long to get one!

a) Traditional Espresso Machines

These machines incorporate the art and theatricality of coffee making, and therefore good barista training is essential to ensure a detailed knowledge of great coffee production. A barista is an expert at making espresso and a master of a variety of espresso based beverages. Once these skills have been mastered, a good barista can produce hundreds of drinks per day.

Prices can vary from around £800 to £6000, but remember, you get what you pay for, so make sure that the machine you choose is new and fully warranted, including full barista training and a good support service. The great thing about traditional machines is that there are no major moving parts so less to go wrong.

b) Bean to Cup Machines

A bean to cup machine does exactly what it says! The fresh coffee beans are placed inside the machine and on the press of a button the machine automatically grinds the beans and pours both coffee and milk into your cup. The machine automatically heats and froths the milk to produce the perfect latte/cappuccino etc. The milk is usually kept in a fridge or milk chiller next to the machine; a pipe from the machine connects into the fridge and when the drink selection button is pressed the machine draws the milk from the fridge and sucks it into the machine steams, heats it and drops it into the cup.

These various coffee machines are designed to produce anything from 50 cups per day to over 500 per day. The cost of these can vary from under £1000 to well over £10000, so it is important you make the correct choice.

c) Pod System

Similar to traditional, but you would usually only have 1 or 2 group versions and you wouldn’t need a grinder because you would use what are called pods. The advantages are that they are easy to use, producing good quality drink and nice aromas. The time taken to make the coffee is approximately the same as a traditional machine. The disadvantages are that they are more expensive per cup due to packaging cost. Typically a good quality pod will cost 20p per cup to produce. These machines will suit any small site and tend to be cheaper than the other machines, costing around £395 upwards.

d) Filter System and Bulk Brew System

These systems are for simply using filter coffee. A 2 jug filter makes great coffee for about 5 to 7 minutes, however if it’s left to stew for a while, as filter coffee usually is, the quality quickly deteriorates due to constant warming. Typically there can be waste, and so while the cup price is around 10p per cup, with waste, this could work out to be nearer 20p per cup. It can be used if there is a high demand for coffee over a short space of time such as serving 120 wedding guests after the dinner. A filter machine is always a back up to a traditional or bean to cup machine for use at very busy times or in case of a machine breakdown.

Bulk brew systems are large scale filter systems used in locations such as banqueting facilities, hotels and sporting events. There are hundreds of different coffee machine systems available depending on how many litres of coffee need to be served and in what time scale.

These coffee machines work by heating the water and then forcing the heated water through the ground coffee. As the heated water moves through the grinds, the water extracts the flavor. The coffee used is ground finer than for regular coffee. Steam is also used to froth milk for cappuccino or lattes.

Types of Cappuccino Makers

There are two basic types of machines for brewing specialty coffee drinks: steam and pump models. Pump machines are the best rated for heating water to the optimal level quickly. The most expensive models all work with an electric pump. They make a great cup of espresso with good crema. Crema is the foamy layer on top of a cup of espresso and is considered an important feature that coffee lovers look for.

Steam models are less expensive and are capable of brewing a good cup of espresso. Steam models have less pressure and less power. They are more affordable and make a good first machine. These products are definitely a step up from standard drip coffee makers.

A variety of coffee types are available for making espresso at home. The grinds are finer than standard coffee. Individual pods are available to fit most models. Pods are pre filled filter packets with the ground coffee measured and sealed inside. Some people love the convenience of pods and swear by them. Other people feel the quality of the drink is much lower when pods are used. The finished drink can be weak or bitter, depending on the brand of coffee and how it is prepared.

Super automatics are the top of the line in home cappuccino making. Super automatics can make all specialty coffees including espresso, cappuccino, lattes and mochas. An automatic milk frothing system prepares the milk according to your taste.

Super automatics are grind and brew devices that do everything for you. They grind the beans, tamp the grinds, measure the water, brew the coffee and froth the milk. Used grinds are dumped into a waste box, which you empty to dispose of the used beans. You program it according to the strength, quantity, and temperature desired in the finished drink. You can brew two mugs at once with super automatics.

Burr grinders are used in most super automatics. You can set the grinder for the consistency you want in the ground beans. Super automatics measure the beans for you, depending on the number of cups you will be brewing.

Cleaning a Cappuccino Machine

Proper cleaning is important to keep your machine working well and making great tasting drinks. Follow the manufacturer’s directions for proper cleaning. The components vary from product to product, so following the directions is important.

The machine should be cleaned inside and out to keep it working well. How you will clean it depends in part on the material used in construction. Stainless steel is the easiest to clean and maintain. Follow the directions included to keep it working well.

You will need to descale and decalcify the machine regularly. This is necessary to remove build up caused by particles in your drinking water. Over time, these particles can clog the machine and interfere with the operation. How often you will need to do this depends on the quality of your water and how often you use the coffee maker. One way to avoid this build up is to use distilled water.

The brew group will need to be cleaned about once each weak. A removable brew group is easier in terms of cleaning. You slide the brew group out through the service door and rinse it regularly. This removes coffee residue and grinds and results in a better tasting drink.

There are so many different styles, brands, and prices for coffee makers. Don’t let the complex buttons and complicated gadgets fool you. When buying a coffee maker, it’s better to look for certain features such as easy controls, pod compatibility, thermal coffee pots, and a drip free spout.

Easy Controls

A good coffee maker comes with a programmable timer and an automatic shut off. First, a programmable timer will automatically start brewing at a designated time. There is no longer a need to start a coffee maker manually. When you wake up and start your day, you don’t have to worry about running to the coffee maker the first thing in the morning. Instead, you can leisurely take your time to get ready and have a hot coffee of coffee waiting for you before you head out the door. Secondly, the automatic shut off will stop brewing the coffee to prevent hot water from dripping into the pot (which makes coffee less flavorful) or on someone’s hand.

Pod Compatibility

One of the latest innovations in coffee makers are coffee pod inserts. Instead of measuring or spilling coffee, these coffee pods are made from compressed coffee bean, which makes a perfect cup of coffee minus the mess.

Thermal Coffee Pots

You want a coffee maker that comes with a thermal coffee pot, so your coffee will stay warm. A thermal coffee pot is specially designed to keep the hot air in and the cold air out.

Drip Free Spout

Another important feature you want in coffee pot that should be included in a coffee maker is a drip free spout. When you pour a cup of coffee with a drip free spout, it prevents the coffee from spilling onto people and other household objects. In other words, you can serve the coffee more easily because you don’t have to worry about scolding others.

Now, you know what to look for when purchasing a coffee maker. But, where do you find a coffee maker with all of these features. Illy USA has a coffee maker with easy controls (programmable timer and automatic shut off), pod compatibility, thermal coffee pots, and a drip free spout. In addition to the coffee maker, Illy USA has delicious dark and medium roast coffee for the coffee lover. You can also browse through Illy USA espresso machines, French press and moka pots, and coffee grinders.

Should you avoid the Delonghi EC155 in spite of the low price, or are there other reasons to buy it? This will be a full Delonghi EC155 review, discussing the pros and cons as experienced by actual users.

PROS:

Low Price – Any product that carries the Delonghi name is expected to be high quality. So a Delonghi model at such a low price point is a rare find.
Dual Filter – The Delonghi has a patented dual filter which not only uses regular pre-ground espresso like any other espresso maker, but also uses E.S.E. (Easy Serve Espresso) pods which means no tamping and no clean up.
15 Bar Pump System – No Delonghi EC155 review would be complete without a discussion of the quality of the espresso. This Delonghi is not an ordinary steam espresso maker. It has a 15 bar self-priming pump system which pushes the hot water through the ground espresso at roughly 15 times normal sea level air pressure. This creates an authentic, coffee house quality espresso with a healthy quarter inch head – known as the crema.
Steam Wand for Cappuccino – All or most espresso makers have some sort of steaming wand that you can use to froth milk for cappuccino. However, the steam wand for this model Delonghi actually works – and is reported to continue working throughout the life of the appliance. This is not always true for inexpensive espresso makers.Click here for the best deals on the Delonghi Espresso EC155

CONS:

Steaming Wand Too Low – Many Delonghi EC155 owners have reported that the steam wand for cappuccino is only several inches from the counter, necessitating a small frothing pitcher.
Output Nozzle Too Low – Similar complaint to the steam wand. Some owners report that since the output nozzle is only a few inches from the plate, they can’t comfortably use large mugs for their espresso. Espresso or cappuccino cups are preferred.
No Cup Warmer – Some espresso purists maintain that espresso should properly be served in a heated cup. There’s no cup warmer on this model Delonghi so if you want heated cups you’ll have to use a microwave.

VERDICT:

On balance, the verdict for this Delonghi EC155 review is positive.

One additional positive point is that, since the Delonghi EC155 is so simple and straightforward, it tends to last and last. If you just want a basic rugged machine to provide you with excellent espresso or cappuccino at home, then the Delonghi EC155 is for you.

It is understandable nowadays that we really want to save as much as possible.  The prices of the basic necessities are just getting higher and higher every week! However, amidst this thriftiness, the yearning for being ‘in’ or let’s just say not being obvious that one is saving like it’s the end of the world is still there. But we all know that this is a very hard thing to do.  The products nowadays that could be bought for relatively affordable prices are either second-hand or low when it comes to its quality.  We may not want to believe in this but this is just the case.

Fortunately, when we focus our attention on coffee makers, there is still something that meets our conditions.  It’s relatively cheaper than the others and really high when it comes to quality.  But before telling you what this product is, we are going to tell you first the things that you should expect when you finally get hold of one unit of this product.

This product is equipped with two thermostats that allow the brewing of espresso and even cappuccino in the right and perfect temperature for these beverages.  So, you really don’t have to worry about making those over brewed or under brewed coffees.  It’s all regulated by this product.  In addition to this, this also has a unique filter that performs two functions.  One is by allowing the making of ordinary ground espresso while the other is the making of the Easy Serving Espresso Pods or the ESE pods.  Now that is just amazing! It is also this unique filter that, like any other coffee maker out there, allows air to be mixed in while brewing so the delicious caramel colored crema will be formed.  As we all know, the crema is perhaps the one that gives espressos their uniqueness.

When it comes to making cappuccino, as said this is equipped with the thermostats to regulate temperature.  In addition to this, this also has an adjustable swivel jet that allow the formation of the flawlessly thick and absolutely rich froth that’s quite essential in cappuccinos.

Now, are you excited? Well, before the moment that you’ve been waiting for, let me just emphasize one thing. This product does not really look like its price.  By this we mean, that it has the looks of something that could be characterized as expensive.  So, even if you’re saving like hell when you bought this, nobody will notice it. Now that’s just good! So without further ado, meet this product, the DeLonghi EC155 Espresso Maker!

Paul has been writing articles for the past 3 years. Check his latest website over at http://www.espressodrinkersguide.com/ which gives people a list of available coffee makers sucha as the DeLonghi EC155.
